Toddler, Mother Seriously Hurt In Motor Vehicle Accident

By Matthew Maddox / February 20, 2020

A 3-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after an accident at a Connecticut bus stop. The child and his mother were hit by a car while waiting for another child to be dropped off by the school bus. Police are still investigating this motor vehicle accident, and believe that speed was likely a factor.

Shortly before the accident, two vehicles were traveling along the road where the bus stop is located. Police say that the driver of a car attempted to pass a van. However, before the car could complete the pass, the van began to make a left turn onto another road. The car driver apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake, and veered off the roadway to where the mother and son were waiting, striking them both.

A witness described a terrifying scene, saying that the small boy was trapped underneath the vehicle. Responding firefighters were able to get the child out from under the car, and he was then airlifted to a children’s hospital for treatment. The boy’s mother was also seriously injured and transported to an area hospital in an ambulance.

The aftermath of a motor vehicle accident can be devastating. Not only do victims usually struggle with physical and emotional trauma, but related medical bills can make it difficult to seek necessary and ongoing care. In Connecticut, victims can hold negligent and reckless drivers accountable for their actions behind the wheel. This is often accomplished by successfully pursuing personal injury claims, which can yield essential compensation.
