If your trial lawyer were a musician, could he win a Grammy? How about a Grammy nomination? Would there at least be a kind word from one of the presenters?
I watched a recorded 60 Minutes piece last night about Beyoncé, Adele and Bruno Mars. Whether you’re a fan of one, or more than one of them, or none at all, they have four things in common that are the hallmarks of success in their field AND for your trial lawyer. Here they are:
1) They are relentless.
And they’ve been relentless and single-minded about their goals for many, many years. As Steve Kroft wrote in his interview of Beyonce, “she is a polished product that’s been years in the making”. Is your lawyer truly relentless? The best possible results don’t come from mediocre, fly-by-night, and short-term planning; they are spawned by years of practice and unrelenting pursuit of the best in everything.
2) They are independent thinkers.
They don’t play a role and they don’t model themselves after anything that is conventional. Adele commented to Anderson Cooper, “I’ve never seen magazine covers and seen music videos and been like I need to look like that if I want to be a success”.

That’s right – killers. Bruno Mars says about the artists who inspired his music, “They’re going up there to murder anybody that performs after them or performs before them.” I love this. Your trial lawyer should be driven to dominate and relish every opportunity to be the standard by which others might be compared.
